TPN Consulting – Data Specialist
Data Analytics & Industry Engagement
Entry-Level Position
TPN Consulting is looking for an entry-level Data Specialist to join our team. While the primary responsibility will be analyzing parking data and producing monthly reports for our clients, this position will be much more than spreadsheets and reports.
We are a small company, which means we all wear a lot of hats. One day you may be digging into a revenue issue and trying to figure out why the numbers don't make sense. Another day you may be researching and writing an article, helping produce an episode of Our Parking Industry Podcast, working on a consulting project, or learning a new technology.
If you are someone who is both analytical and creative, this position gives you an opportunity to use both sides of your brain.
This is an entry-level position. The only specific technical experience we require is a working knowledge of Excel. You do not need parking experience, advanced data analysis skills, or a particular degree. We can teach you the parking industry and our processes.
This is a 100% remote position with less than 10% travel expected. The starting salary for this role will be $45,000.
What we can't teach as easily is curiosity. The most important thing we are looking for is someone who is eager to learn.
About TPN Consulting
TPN Consulting works with parking owners, operators, municipalities, universities, healthcare systems, airports, and commercial properties to help them better understand and improve their parking financials from revenue and expenses as well as the influences the operation has on those metrics.
In addition to our data work we are also very involved in providing knowledge and resources to the parking industry through our Park Pulse monthly
newsletter articles, industry conventions, and Our Parking Industry Podcast episodes.
Our Core Values
Improve the Industry
We want to leave the parking industry better than we found it. That means asking questions, sharing what we learn, challenging the way things have always been done, and helping our clients make better decisions.
Flexibility and Trust
We believe people do their best work when they are trusted. With that flexibility comes responsibility. We depend on one another to manage our work, meet deadlines, communicate, and follow through.
Moral Integrity
Our clients trust us with their financial and operational information. Honesty, accuracy, objectivity, and doing the right thing are extremely important to us.
Future-Focused and History-Honoring
We are excited about where technology, data, AI, and innovation are taking our industry, but we also believe there is a lot to learn from the people and experiences that got us here. We want to be part of what comes next without forgetting what came before.
Quality In. Quality Out.
The quality of our work depends on the quality of the information and effort that goes into it. Details matter. Organization matters. Communication matters.
What You'll Do
A large part of this position will be working with an assigned group of client locations each month. You will learn their operations, analyze their data, prepare reports, and eventually become very familiar with what "normal" looks like so you can recognize when something isn't.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Preparing monthly Performance Monitoring reports
-
Organizing and analyzing financial and operational data in Excel
-
Comparing results to previous months, prior years, and other benchmarks
-
Identifying trends, unusual results, missing information, and potential problems
-
Asking questions and digging deeper when something doesn't make sense
-
Clearly communicating your observations and findings with both the parking manager and the asset owner
-
Keeping files, data, and monthly workflows organized
-
Managing recurring deadlines independently
-
Working with the rest of our team to solve problems and share ideas
-
Supporting special consulting and research projects
-
Researching and helping write industry articles once industry knowledge is developed
-
Participating in podcast research, preparation, and production
-
Learning new software, technology, and analytical tools
-
Occasionally traveling for client visits, conferences, training, or other industry events
Who We're Looking For
More than anything, we want someone who wants to learn.
You should be comfortable with Excel, but you don't need to be an expert. You should like solving problems and be willing to keep digging when the answer isn't obvious. Being detail-oriented and organized will help tremendously because once you are comfortable with your assigned locations, a significant portion of your work will be independent.
While most of the work is independent, communication and teamwork are also very important to us. We are a small team, and we work closely together. We want someone who asks questions, shares ideas, helps others, communicates when they need help, and genuinely wants to be part of the team.
We are looking for someone who is:
-
Curious and eager to learn
-
Comfortable working in Excel
-
Analytical and a problem solver
-
Organized and detail-oriented
-
Self-motivated and disciplined
-
A good communicator
-
Dependable and trustworthy
-
Team-oriented and supportive
-
Interested in technology and learning new skills
-
Comfortable being both analytical and creative
Parking experience is not required. Advanced analytics or programming experience is not required. A specific college degree is not required.
Where This Role Can Go
This is probably the part of the position that excites our team the most.
TPN is at an interesting point in our growth. Technology, data analytics, and automation are changing the parking industry, and we believe there is a tremendous opportunity ahead of us. Innovation is going to be an important part of where our company goes next.
That also means there is room for this position to grow.
You may discover that you love data analysis. You may find that you are a great writer. You may become interested in consulting, technology, podcasting, research, client relationships, or something we aren't even doing yet.
We don't expect you to arrive knowing exactly where you want your career to go. We want to give you the opportunity to figure that out.
If you enjoy spreadsheets but also like to write, create, research, solve problems, and try new things, you may be exactly the kind of person we are looking for.
You don't need to know parking yet.
You just need to be curious enough to want to learn it.
