Awet Haile is the Atlantic Wharf Garage General Manager in Boston, Massachusetts. The TPN team had the pleasure of meeting her and touring her garage in the fall of 2023 and the friendship was fast! Even though this month was crazy for her, Awet agreed to visit with me and answer a few of my questions to share with you in this month’s Parking Professional Spotlight. You’ll see and agree with us that Awet has something valuable to say to the parking industry!  

 

Leigh: Awet, how did you get into the parking business? 
Awet: I started in the parking business in 1999 as a cashier at the Prudential Garage. From there, I worked my way up, learning and growing with each new role. Over time, I realized how much I enjoyed the fast-paced environment, the logistics, and the customer interaction.

Leigh: What advice do you have for new parking professionals? 
Awet: Be patient, stay organized, and never underestimate the power of communication. The parking industry runs on teamwork and adaptability. Building strong relationships with your team and clients makes a huge difference.

Leigh: What is the greatest challenge you face regularly as a garage manager? 
Awet: One of the biggest challenges is balancing operational efficiency with customer satisfaction, especially during high-traffic times or unexpected situations like when the system goes down. But with a solid team and clear communication, we always find a way to make it work. 

​

Leigh: What activity brings you great joy outside of work? 
Awet: Spending time with my kids, family, and friends definitely brings me the most joy. I also enjoy cooking and helping people; both help me recharge and stay balanced.
