Tadesse Haile, 18 Years Built on Learning and Growth
The parking industry is not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a career that is dynamic and rewarding, but Tadesse and the TPN team would disagree! This month TPN is excited to spotlight Tadesse Haile. With over 18 years of experience, Tadesse, a seasoned professional in the parking operations and technology space, has seen firsthand how much the industry has evolved—from outdated manual systems to cutting-edge, tech-driven solutions. His journey is not only a testament to personal growth but also to the remarkable transformation of the parking industry as a whole.
Like many in the industry, Tadesse didn’t set out to work in parking. His entry into the field was somewhat unexpected. "A friend referred me to a customer service role at a time when everything felt new to me," he recalls. At first, he didn’t view it as a long-term career. However, as he became more immersed in the day-to-day operations, he quickly saw the vast potential within the industry. What started as a way to make ends meet soon became a career passion, and now, nearly two decades later, Tadesse finds himself deeply invested in shaping the future of parking.
When Tadesse first entered the industry, parking operations were far from the tech-savvy systems we see today. Most operational components were still manual until very recently.
Today, the parking landscape looks drastically different. "Technology has revolutionized parking with automated payment systems, mobile apps, and data-driven solutions," Tadesse observes. These advancements have made parking more efficient, streamlined, and user-friendly. The global pandemic also played a significant role in reshaping customer expectations. "Post-COVID, people now expect seamless, contactless, and efficient parking experiences," says Tadesse. This shift in expectations continues to influence how businesses in the parking sector operate, making it more important than ever to stay ahead of the curve.
It’s not all work and no play in the parking industry, and Tadesse has his share of amusing memories from his time as a valet. "One funny memory is how, as a valet, I would sometimes struggle to start cars we thought were ‘automated’—and now those vehicles are considered outdated!" he laughs.
But beyond the humor, Tadesse has seen the parking industry evolve into a tight-knit community where relationships are key. "You see the same familiar faces, clients switching vendors, and even find yourself managing operations you handled years ago," he explains. "Despite moving to different companies or roles, the parking industry always feels like one big family."
Over the years, Tadesse has worn many hats in the parking world, from valet and cashier to senior operations manager, then transitioning into technology and PARCS (Parking Access and Revenue Control Systems). Each transition has been driven by a desire to learn and grow. "I’ve always sought opportunities to challenge myself," he says, noting his background in accounting and supervisory management, along with experience as a credit analyst at a bank in Ethiopia, as essential building blocks for his career.
The shift from operations to technology was a pivotal moment in Tadesse’s career. "It required adaptability and a forward-thinking mindset," he explains. His unique perspective—gained from both the operational and technological sides—has given him an edge in offering comprehensive solutions that truly meet clients’ needs.
While Tadesse remains humble about his achievements, he’s had a significant impact on the parking industry. One of his proudest moments was helping early-stage online parking companies find their footing. "I remember a major vendor’s CEO knocking on my door, asking for 15-20 spaces—and now they are a major player in the industry," he reflects. "It’s rewarding to have played a small part in that evolution."
His ability to grow operations is another area where he shines. During his tenure in Baltimore, he expanded the company’s locations from 6 to over 26. "Many of the operations I managed saw their NOI (Net Operating Income) double or triple," he notes. His strategic insights led to a particularly impressive success story when he increased the NOI at one location by over a million dollars in just one year.
But for Tadesse, the most rewarding aspect of his career has been mentoring others. "I’ve helped groom employees who have gone on to become CEOs, VPs, and senior leaders in the parking industry," he says. For him, success is about much more than revenue numbers—it’s about delivering great service, helping others grow, and always putting yourself in the customer’s shoes.
When he’s not working, Tadesse enjoys spending time with his family, reading (he read over 25 books in 2024!), and staying active with regular exercise. "I’m deeply committed to my faith, and my relationship with God-Jesus helps me stay grounded and balanced in both my personal and professional life," he shares. His ability to maintain a strong work-life balance has been key to his sustained success in a tough industry.
As he continues to help clients with customer-focused parking solutions, Tadesse remains excited about the future of parking. "The industry is evolving rapidly, and I’m thrilled to be part of that transformation," he says. With a career built on adaptability, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, Tadesse is well-positioned to continue making an impact on the parking industry for many years to come.
His story is a reminder that sometimes the best career paths are the ones you stumble upon unexpectedly—and with the right mindset and determination, you can build a legacy that lasts!
